GEA Refrigeration Technologies acquires Bock Kältemaschinen GmbH
On 16 December 2010, GEA Refrigeration Technologies, of Bochum, Germany, signed a agreement for acquisition of the company Bock Kältemaschinen GmbH, of Frickenhausen, Germany, a firm until then in family ownership. In addition to its administration and production location in Germany, and a total of more than 300 staff, Bock includes an international distribution network, as well as factories in Stríbro (Czech Republic), Vadodara (India), and Hangzhou (China). After FCO clearance by the respective government antitrust offices, GEA will take over the entire staff. Agreement was reached to treat the price of the acquisition as confidential. Dr. Hugo Blaum, President of the GEA Segment Refrigeration Technologies, said, “This acquisition diversifies the portfolio of piston and screw compressors in GEA Group, and assures at the same time the continued operation of Bock.”

GEA Group Aktiengesellschaft has further strengthened its Refrigeration Division through the acquisition of the International Cooling Group (ICG), headquartered at Fareham near Southampton, UK. ICG manufactures evaporators and condensers for the industrial refrigeration markets under the brand names Searle, Raffel and Dawmec. In 2007 ICG generated sales of approximately 70 Mio. EUR with 500 employees. The transaction will take effect after approval from the German Federal Cartel Office.

Grenco absorption refrigeration system for marine application

For the first time ever an absorption refrigeration system is to operate onboard large fishing vessel. Substantial fuel saving and ease of operation are the main features. 

Until now refrigeration systems onboard fishing vessels have been utilizing the traditional compressor technology. Grenco however started 10 years ago a study on the use of the absorption principle for marine applications. This work has cumulated in the first order for the well known innovator Mr. Stig Remøy and his Norwegian company Olympic Prawn. The new ship, yet to be named, will be build at Havyard Solstrand in Norway, and the ST-118 design is worked out by Skipsteknisk in Ålesund.

Shipowner W. van der Zwan & Zonen B.V. placed a remarkable order with Grenco B.V. for the new building of environmental friendly cooling- and freezing installations aboard the fish trawler Willem van der Zwan (SCH302). The order value is several millions and one of the biggest in the history of Grenco B.V. The marine department of Grenco B.V. will be working on this order for at least 10 months.
